About
Shayla Shaw
I am a multimedia journalist working across writing, photography, audio, and video. My work focuses on culture, education, philosophy, and global events, with an emphasis on how these forces shape everyday life.
I aim to make complex ideas clear, engaging, and accessible to a wide audience. Whether covering music, people, or broader social issues,
I have built much of my journalism experience through my work with NYS Music, where I have written coverage, profiles, reviews, and long-form articles. Beyond journalism, I have also worked extensively in photography, covering weddings, sports, events, and portrait sessions. I bring that same curiosity and energy to audio storytelling, producing podcast episodes that combine research with an engaging style. My work in film has also been recognized when one of my short films, Thanatophobia, won Best Video at SUNY Old Westbury’s People’s Choice Award. There is also where I earned my bachelors degree in Media and Communications. I even bring in marketing skills through my time working as an event marketer where I deepened my knowledge of public relations and communication strategies.
